Hi there, I'm Ian Porteous, and I am huge fan of bluegrass music.

From the very first day that I discovered it, to where I am now, spans 30 years of adventure, festivals, music camps (as an attendee and as an instructor), weekly jams, my own string band, and many all nighters in the circle.

I started playing music as an adult.

I wasn't a natural.

I even thought I was tone deaf.

And it is because of these challenges, that I know what it takes to notice each step, each building block, for beginners to

pour the right foundation.

I have distilled the most important lessons I've learned and the time has come for me to share them.
